Churchill Container CRI Case Study

Case study: Color Rendering Index (CRI):

CRI is the measurement in lighting that helps reveal the true color and fine details of objects when compared to an ideal light source, i.e.; natural sun light.
Client: Churchill Container, Kansas City, Mo.
Churchill Container, is a dynamic innovator of souvenir cups and food containers. As the oldest plastic souvenir container manufacturer in business today. Churchill Container strives to innovate by offering unique styles and intense graphic options surpassing any other competitor. Clients include major league sports teams, universities, concessionaires, distributors, and restaurants. Churchill Container is a manufacturer of choice in the reusable cup and food container arena.

Lighting Challenge:

Established in 1980 and business growing at a rapid pace, Churchill, outgrew its existing location and required a new production facility. An empty distribution center was chosen to be the new home for Churchill. The location was to be upgraded with new offices and enough production area to triple production capacity. The facility had dated 6 lamp T5/HO fixtures that littered the ceiling and lighting levels that were below IES recommend practice levels. The second major hurdle was not only increasing the foot-candle level on the work surface, the lighting had to provide superior color rendering to match exact color specifications without having to stop and delay production until the right color and graphic detail were approved at other location because poor lighting. A third hurdle required the lighting to be fully enclosed to protect employees, products and clients and meeting the safe quality food regulations. The production goal at Churchill Container is to create and print high quality graphics where the colors all reveal superior color matching to promote the brand or graphics per the request of the client. That said, CRI is selling tool and clients/employees can make quick and correct decisions on the color accuracy of the product being produced.

Solution:

Replace all industrial low CRI fluorescent fixtures with enclosed and gasketed Citadel 4 LED with a CRI of 85 or better in the production area. Before and after photos show the dynamic CRI along with energy efficient LED Citadel 4’s and a beautiful production environment.

Additional Benefits:

· Increased production times and setups
· Worker satisfaction and productivity
· Improved quality control
· Maintenance saving (longer LED life)
