Using the Inverse Square Law to Our Advantage
SLP’s engineering lab started taking shape around ten years ago with a limited amount of space in the basement of the company’s headquarters. To maximize every square foot, SLP engineers utilized the inverse square law* to develop a darkroom with a custom goniometer stand, single point light sensor placement and clever data computations. This enabled SLP engineers to run and create photometric reports for both R&D as well as in-house verification with test accuracy consistently within 2% of data from larger certified labs. Saving both time and money, the engineers at SLP know exactly how a fixture performs before leaving the door for third party certification, as we require on all products.
*The inverse square law is a law stating that the intensity of an effect such as illumination or gravitational force changes in inverse proportion to the square of the distance from the source.
