Frosted vs Clear Lenses
Q: What are the advantages of the Clear Lens?
- Lower cost to produce and work great with Fluorescent or LED tubes.
- Achieves the highest level of lumens and efficiency from the fixture.
- Most efficient. Works well with frosted LED tube lamps but not LED boards due to glare, no hindrance in light output.
Q: What are the advantages of the Frosted Lens?
- Has fantastic hiding capabilities for LED diodes with only losing a small percentage of light transmission.
- Achieves the highest level of lumens and efficiency from your fixture without seeing the full intensity of the diodes.
- SLP’s FR50 produces only about 3 to 5% less light output than our clear blend in Acrylic while still providing great hiding power of raw LED Chip used in the current LED Boards.
Q: What applications do each lens fit best in?
Put simply LED tubes for clear lens vs. LED boards for FR50 Lens.
- Clear lenses are best suited when mounting in higher applications such as warehouses or some food applications.
- Clear lenses would be most suitable in high bay applications of 20’+ and/or applications where the fixture is pointing away from the floor (ie wall wash, awnings, 45°).
- Clear – high into ceilings where diffusion is not needed or desired, also florescent tubes and LED Frosted Tubes
- Frosted lenses are best suited when mounting in lower applications such as parking garages, freezers, and retail.
- Frosted lenses would be best suited where glare (from the diodes) is a concern. For example, applications of 20’ and less from the floor (ie parking garage, low bay food processing)
- Frosted – lower applications where you need to hide the lights or diodes.
