Remote Box Enclosure Product Showcase
The idea for the Remote Box Enclosure came from the SLP Sales Team, as they were seeing an increasing need from our OEMs to achieve higher lumen outputs from LED light engines. Since the heat generated by both the LED board and the driver(s) limits their respective lives, separation of driver from the LED board reduces that combined heat effect, allowing higher lumen outputs and longer life. Other times separation is desirable is when a streamlined fixture is required either for aesthetic reasons or for situations such as horticultural lighting, where tight, vertical growing systems are required to take advantage of limited growing areas. One additional advantage is the ease of servicing/replacing the drivers, etc since there is no need to uninstall the light fixture.
Leveraging SLP Lighting and Koller Enterprises’ vast experience at injection molding, along with SLP’s history of producing vapor tight fixtures, it was natural that the design for the Remote Box Enclosure be a vapor tight, polymeric enclosure, which also utilizes SLP’s new pour in place gasket machine.
The SLP Remote Box Enclosure is NSF Certified, meets IES IP66 (with IP69 coming soon!), and is available in two offerings:
- A UL1598 Recognized Component Luminaire Enclosure fitting, which means it is UL Recognized when used as a component of a luminaire fixture.
- A UL50E Listed Electrical Equipment Enclosure, used as a standalone enclosure, for both lighting and non-lighting related customers, with no additional testing required. It is suitable for NEMA Types 4X and 13 environments (NEMA 4X is intended for indoor or outdoor use primarily to provide a degree of protection against corrosion, windblown dust and rain, splashing water, and hose directed water; undamaged by ice which forms on fixture. NEMA 13 provides the additional protection against spraying of non-corrosive coolants and meets oil exclusion and rust resistance design tests.) Many enclosures may state that they MEET NEMA 4X and NEMA 13, but are not actually listed as such.
In a nutshell, the Remote Box offers a wide gamut of features and benefits, compared with many electrical enclosures on the market, such as:
- Accommodates various mounting configurations, including Wall, Ceiling, Junction Box, Pendant, Hook, plus mounts directly to the SLP CircLED Round High Bay. Optional Mounting Brackets for Wall or Ceiling Mount snap directly onto Remote box, and eliminate the need for drilling.
- Includes various knock outs for ½” and ¾” Conduit Fittings, Ethernet, and Battery Pack Test Switch/Indicator Light.
- Polymer Box offers very good resistance to a broad range of chemicals, and is rated for 55°C ambient, provided that internal components installed inside do not exceed their max operating temperatures.
- Accommodates driver/battery pack/control footprints up to 14.75” long.
- Also designed in mind for controls integration into legacy product for retrofit installation
Lastly, water tight electrical enclosures, whether metal or plastic, can be fairly pricey, especially with the number of features and listings shown above. The SLP Remote Box Enclosure offers a relatively inexpensive option for enclosing your electrical equipment.
